Frequently Asked Questions
What is a super bill?
A super bill is a document that a provider gives you that you submit to your insurance’s out of network benefits.
How do I know if I have any out of network benefits?
Great question. It can be confusing! You can check your out of network benefits instantly here.
If you prefer to call or message your insurance yourself to get a little bit more information about the process, Agave Center for Justice in Mental Health has created a form that guides you through the questions you need to ask your insurance company in order to know what your insurance coverage is. Usually you will need to call your insurance company and ask these questions, but sometimes you can message them and ask instead. Here is the link to that form: Guide to Insurance Verification.
I feel overwhelmed by the idea of submitting super bills to my insurance. Is there any way someone can help me with this?
Yes! There is a company called Thrizer that supports clients by submitting your super bills for you and obtaining the reimbursement from your insurance company on your behalf. You can learn more about that service on their website here.
I checked my out of network benefits and they won’t cover anything. What can I do if I can’t afford therapy?
If you need help finding in network or sliding scale therapy (a reduced rate based on your income), please visit the nonprofit Agave Center for Justice in Mental Health. You can complete the Request a Referral form and a volunteer will be in touch to help you. Their referral network is primarily in Chicago, but they have some connections across the country and might be able to help you find care even if you live in another state.
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes, I offer free 15 minute virtual consultations to make sure we are a good fit to work together.
Can I come to therapy in person?
Yes please! I love to work in person. I rent office space from Agave Studio for Psychotherapy in the Loop.
Is there parking available?
You never know, but I would not count on street parking in the Loop. There is a nearby valet (in front of Staples) if you’re in a rush, or you can use SpotHero to find nearby parking if you’re planning ahead. I recommend taking the bus or the L if you can.
